Woooooo..oooooo (I need some better sound effects here)!….
I had so much fun creating this little haunted house scene. The best part was the help of my daughter, Sage. She decided to get really involved in helping me create this entire scene. She had her own ideas to add such as a basement and making haystacks out of the ‘Cousin It’ character with Cousin It peeking out of just one. She also helped put little tabs on the fence and characters to help them stand up. I haven’t been able to get her much interested in scrapbooking yet, but she is really liking my new (to me) cartridge, Paper Doll Dress Up.
The second thing that made this so great was all the fun I had playing with my Cricut and, of course, my Gypsy. I used a variety of cartidges as well as my Cricut Markers and Cricut Jelly Pens. I had fun learning more about using my Gypsy. I created one page with various characters all on one page to have a better idea of scale. I found that when ready to cut, I was able to delete the characters I wasn’t ready to cut and move the ones I was ready to cut to correspond to the paper I had placed on the mat. When I was done, I just didn’t save the page and was able to reopen my orinally saved page again. I also experimented with drawing with the Cricut markers and then cutting the same thing again with the blade, all without removing the mat.
I used various papers and cartridges here. For the main house, we used Basic Grey Sublime that I still have. It was cut from Winter Woodland cartridge. For the roof, we embossed it by using my cuttlebug folder, but by rubbing it rather than running it through the cuttlebug since it was to big. Then we beat it a little with my Tim Holtz distressing hammer. We also cut slits in the edges to mimic shingles. We added shutters as well that we embossed with Forest Branches folder. The fence was cut from Paper Doll Dress Up and was outlined with the Cricut Marker before cutting. Most of the characters were made with various scrap papers I had and were cut with Paper Doll Dress Up. I used my Copic markers to airbrush the spider web, skeleton, and mummy with C1. I also used the C1 marker to lightly shade the ghosts. The tree was also cut from Paper Doll Dress Up as well as the tombstones. I also added a silhouette head from A Child’s Year to one of the tombstones for a really great look. Oh, and for all those Twilight Fans, I sprayed my vampire with Shimmerz Mist (baby’s breath) before adding his clothes so that he sparkles! 🙂 Lastly, I used a variety of cartridges for the leaves; I just went through my Gypsy and added whatever leaves I could find quickly. These were hard to cut because they were so little. We did have a fern punch that we added to the fallen leaves mix.
Thank you so much to the gals from Custom Crops where I first saw this idea: Maria and Susan. Please click on their names for their haunted houses. And click on Custom Crops so that you can find some REALLY great projects in their articles with the best directions, and while you’re there, don’t forget to check out their products.
These pictures just do not do the whole scene justice. Wish you could all see it. Please click on them for a closer look and excuse all the mess on my counter! Please let me know if you have any questions, or comments! 😉
