Have you recovered from Thanksgiving yet? I have not. Hopefully, a little holiday shopping this weekend will fix it all! I’m honored to be a guest designer today over at She’s a Sassy Lady and I have a fun holiday project to share with you today. I want to point out that I did use my Imagine and the Snow Angel Cartridge, but I think you could take the idea of my ornaments and use any of the Cricut holiday shapes of ornaments to create something similar if you don’t have this cartridge and/or Imagine. Though, I will have to admit that I am having more and more fun playing with my Imagine and creating some quick yet polished looking projects.
Using my Imagine, I first chose the ornament images I wanted to create and then chose to print and cut the layers of each. I sized them to 5.3″ and then selected to cut 2 copies of my selected artwork so that I could have a front and back of the same image on each finished ornament. I love that it shows me I will need 4 pieces of paper. Next, I started loading my mats with my Bazzill white paper and started printing and cutting (OK, really the Imagine did, but I pushed the button!!!)
I’ve been really working with the advanced calibration on my Imagine. I’ve been having issues with it not cutting consistently on the images as they move across and down the page. I think I’ve finally gotten it pretty darn close though. It’s still not exactly PERFECT, but it is much better as you can see on my mat above.
Once all my pieces were cut out, I let them sit overnight. The ink color is supposed to be colorfast, but it does still bleed sometimes if it gets wet. Letting them sit for a few hours seems to help with this a bit, but it’s all dependant on your application. It was then time to play and embellish my lovely cut pieces. I knew that I wanted to cover some of the images with Diamond Glaze. You could also use Glossy Accents or emboss these with clear embossing powder or UTEE. On some of the other images, I glittered different sections with either fine glitter or stickles.
I also used Rangers White enamel on some of the lacy parts. I love this liquid enamel. It comes as a set with black and I love them both and keep looking for ways to use it. It looked like icing on these ornaments. I wish you could see them in person, b/c they look so much better than I can achieve with a photo.
After all my little pieces were dressed up and embellished, I started layering them together with pop dots and then adhered two layered images back to back with more pop dots. I punched holes through all the layers, and put an eyelet in the the top full-shaped layer. Then I delved into my neglected fibers to string them with. Now I have a great layered ornament for my tree. I think these would also make great little gifts.
Again, don’t feel limited if you don’t have this cartridge. I think you could layer up some other Cricut images and glue back-to-back for your own ornaments. However, if you do have this cartridge, check out the gorgeous ornaments on it. They are so very pretty.
