I was so honored when I was asked to be a Guest Designer on a new challenge blog called Scrap Africa. This challenge blog is comprised of some amazingly talented designers and they are putting together some fun challenges along the way. I have to share that one of the greatest highlights of my recent CHA trip was the opportunity to meet so many wonderful designers from all over the world. Let me just say that my bucket list is growing and as a simple Florida country girl, I cannot wait for the first chance to travel out of the states.
Make sure you visit Scrap Africa to see the challenge this week and it would be great if you would play along. It’s a sketch challenge that you can see HERE. I decided to make a mixed media canvas with the sketch after turning it sideways. I used some fabulous paper again from FabScraps to create my base. I glued the papers to my canvas base using Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste. The edges of my canvas base were misted with Tattered Angels Chalkboard in Decadence.
I pulled out Crafter’s Workshop stencils. Using modeling paste mixed with Tattered Angels Decadence Chalkboard through only part of the 12×12 Birds of a Feather Stencil, I created the tree branch you see above. The quote was printed directly onto my scrapbook paper with my printer.
I then used Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in pewter so stamp with the CW Chicken Wire stencil. Yes, you can stamp with them too!! Can’t wait for the reverse Chicken Wire The Crafter’s Workshop just released.
I misted, glazed, and glammed the other elements on the canvas; birdcage and birds from Tim Holtz Caged Bird diecut and canvas tags from Canvas Corp. I even had some more metal embellishments from FabScraps that you can see on the bottom of the cage and the bottom corners of the canvas layout. Most everything had a little extra distressing with Ranger Distress Ink in Walnut on the edges.
The metal on the bottom of the layout was an ornate square that I cut in half for corners. My trusty Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive was used for all the metal embellishments as well as the canvas tags and grungepaper elements.
I am so thrilled with how this came out and I want to thank Scrap Africa for the honor to be a Guest Designer today and for the wonderful challenge which inspired this creation.
