Living the Art Life™

Plain Jane and Walnut Hollow

by Cheryl 7 Comments

Have you heard just how wonderful all the Tattered Angels Plain Jane collection work on wood?

This was a project that I created for the CHA Tattered Angels booth using a Walnut Hollow signboard.   I also used Wendy Vichy Art Parts to embellish the signboard as well as Pink Paislee alphabet for my title.   Plain Jane paint products were used to color the entire project.  I did use some gesso on the leafy flourish before misting and a little distress ink over the crackle finish.  The crackle finish was created using Helmar 2-step Crackle Medium. This produces the most beautiful crackle finish.

I stamped a piece of canvas and put it behind the Tim Holtz ornate frame along with a little fiberfill for the quilted look and I stamped a flourish randomly around the entire wood piece.

I hope you’ll enjoy trying Plain Jane on different surfaces.

Cheryl this is lovely! Off to add another product to my ever-growing Helmar shopping cart. I love the Walnut Hollow wood bases – they are so versatile. Nice to know the tattered angels works on wood, too. The crackle texture is so detailed. The little faux embroidery in the frame is the perfect finishing touch. PINNING!

Thank you, Susan. Helmar’s Crackle 2 step is probably my favorite crackle. I love that I can create smaller or larger crackles and it looks like a natural crackle finish. And thank you so much for pinning! Love that.

Tattered Angels pains cover wood really well. They do a great job on any porous surface. I know you work with a lot of fabrics, Jacquelynne, so know that they are water-based, though, so they will not set in fabrics as well.
