Paper Cone Holiday Wreaths

by Cheryl 5 Comments

I finally made paper cone wreaths and adore how these came out.  I made a few of these to sell at my downtown studio and at the Farmer’s Market and they seem to be a hit! I also decided to enter this in the FaveCrafts Christmas Blog Hop.   You can find all other blogs participating by clicking on this link below.

To make this many cones, I didn’t want to tear up my really old music magazines, so I scanned in a few sheets and printed them in sepia on thin aka ‘cheap’ copy paper.  Then I rolled them up and used a little Helmar Acid Free Glue to glue them into cone shapes.

To keep these super lightweight, I decided to use SmoothFoam circles as my base.

I cut a slit in the SmoothFoam wide enough for the ribbon I used.  I used fabulous silver and gold sparkly ribbon from May Arts Ribbon.  Since I created these to sell and was not sure of the ribbon length the desired buyer would want, I created the ribbon with extra length and pinned the ribbon into the back of the SmoothFoam.  This allows the recipient to customize the length of the ribbon. They may want this over a mantelpiece or just on a wall or door.  The inverted pin works perfectly to hold it in place, but it could easily become more permanent with some glue or good tape on back.

I didn’t want to deal with hot glue, so I used Helmar Foam glue, which was the perfect application here for this project.

After one circle was complete using 8.5×11 paper cones, I cut down a few more to 5.5×5.5 sheets and made smaller cones for a second, smaller layer.

I used products from Canvas Corp, May Arts, Tim Holtz, Spellbinders, and Prima Bead to create festive centers for my wreaths.

I also used a tiny bit of Gilded Gold Tattered Angels mist to give a shimmer to each wreath. You can see it just a bit in this close up.

These really do make a WOW statement when you see them.  I think I need to make a few more and then consider some for other seasons.

Find time to create today!  Thanks for stopping by.  Don’t forget to check out other Christmas projects at FaveCrafts Christmas Blog Hop.
