DH and I are celebrating 15 years. This 15 year gift is supposed to be Crystal, so I wanted something elegant and simple. I don’t have Cricut Cake (and don’t have time or money for another toy right now), but I do like many of the cartridges that came out with it, most especially Elegant Cakes. I LOVE the font and borders on this card. So, of course, this is the one I looked to first to design my card to DH. I decided to use the negative space to highlight a beautiful satin ribbon.
My card was going to be a 5×7 card. So, I set the true character size on and made a rectangle 5×7. I think I used George for that rectangle. Then I carefully centered the pretty heart and flower shape in the lower part of the card with two bracket-type borders on either side. I selected one and then copied and flipped the other. I choose another heart shape and rotated it to fit in the upper corner and again, copied and flipped for the other top corner of card. This became the front card face. I did not want a matted border so this is to be set flush on the card, which I cut 10 x 7 and scored at 5″ down center. I used the Happy Anniversary that is already included in this cart and sized them to fit as I liked. I then moved them on the mat so that I could cut everything at once.
Here is my paper on the mat. I used a really thick cardstock (hard to cut) from PaperTrey Ink as my cardfront. I used Bazzill Bling for the Happy Anniversary in shimmer white and silver.
After the card front was cut out, I misted with Pearl Glimmer Mist and dried. Then I weaved the ribbon through the brackets and under the center shape.
I used my little Glue Glider to put a strip of adhesive on the back for the ribbon on both side and to put adhesive around the hearts at top and added two little squares of ribbon. I then attached this whole piece to the front of the card! I did have to use a drop of liquid adhesive on the top corners. When trying to run the tape runner, it wanted to pull the ribbon at top. It might be a good idea to use fray check or glue on the edges of your ribbon squares before trying to glue down. I kept trying to clean up the little fibers.
Look how simply elegant. I added a few little pearls for dimension and a little something extra.
Here is a close up of one of the corner hearts with the ribbon behind it.
Isn’t this font just beautiful? I really like it a lot and it cut so much better than I even thought it would.
So, simply elegant card simply designed and cut. I hope it sparks some ideas of how you can use negative space as well to make a positive statement.
Happy Anniversary. Darling. I love you.
Thanks for stopping by today and for your lovely comments.
