Cheryl Boglioli Designs

Living the Art Life™

Love is Family

by Cheryl 23 Comments

I’m so excited to share this project with you today.   It’s my turn again to be the guest designer at She’s a Sassy Lady.  These Sassies are amazing and I always feel so humbled and honored having the privilege to design with them.

This project was a lot of fun and is a lot of elements.   I was inspired from the “Bless Our Nest” kit I created months back.  I’ve really been wanting to make something like this again, and this provided the best opportunity.

I started with shapes from Love Struck 2010.   The gray and pink multi-heart shape was layered using my Gypsy.  I then took another basic heart from the same cartridge and enlarged it to make the large background shaped.  I used my Gypsy to make sure that I could layer all my heart elements as desired, but no welding was necessary.   All those little welded hearts are already part of a really great image on the Love Struck 2010 cartridge.  You could easily create something similar with any shape or cartridge. The large background was cut from chipboard.  I did use my Deep Cut blade and cut it multiple times.   After cutting the chipboard heart, I sanded all the edges to rough them up for a shabby touch.   The gray shadowed shape is Bazzill gray cardstock.   The pink floral layer was cut from Echo Park’s Be Mine collection.

Once all my pieces were cut, the fun began.   I started by painting my chipboard heart with silver paint.  After that was dry, I lightly brushed across Mountain Rose colored paint.

I then painted it with mixing Tattered Rose and Picket Fence crackle paint and let it dry.   After it was completely dry, I sanded various places all around and across the heart.

I used Archival Ink and various Tim Holtz stamps and stamped randomly on the heart focusing around the border.  Then I inked the edges with Spun Sugar as well as inking up a few other places randomly blending in various places.  I sanded again to add a little more shabbiness and finally finished this piece with swipes of Ranger Pearl paint.  Love how that Pearl Paint mutes the colors just a tad more and adds this wonderful pearlescence.

Before adding my other layers, I took the time to color my ribbons.  I used Distress Spun Sugar to color my Hug Snug ribbon to hang it from.  I choose a ruffled ribbon with tulle and misted this with Tattered Angels Cherry Blossom.

While these ribbons were drying, I added all my extra layers; some Basic Grey chipboard letters covered with Stickles, some bling, metal, and lots more elements.   After my ribbons were dry, I punched two holes to string my ribbon and tied it on.  Lastly, I used Helmar 450 adhesive to adhere the tulle ribbon to the back of the chipboard heart.

Here are a few more views and close-ups.

I hope you find some inspiration today and create something happy!

Thank you all for stopping by today,
