Living the Art Life™

Learning with Tags – Days 1-4

by Cheryl 11 Comments

I am having so much fun with T!m’s 12 Tags of Christmas.  I’ve learned a new technique or approach to a technique each day and that has been the best part.

Day 1 was fun playing with inks and my Cricut.   I don’t have the rickety house die or the fence die, so I improvised by using cuts from my Cricut.   I used a house from Jolly Holidays.  Since this was a layered cut, I cut the base out of the grungeboard. using my deep cut blade and 5 multicuts.   I then cut the top layer with windows out of grungepaper so that it would be a thinner layer on top.  I then traced the windows and door lightly with pencil onto the base and colored the different parts of the base with Distress Inks.  I used plastic packaging to glue to the inside of the grungepaper layer for my window panes.  The gorgeous technique that I learned this day was to mist my Distress inks on my craft mat with the Perfect Pearls mist before doing the wrinkle free distress.  I LOVED the effect of the pearls with the ink.
Day 2 was about playing with multicolored stamps.   I don’t have any Cut N Dry felt, so I used a paper towel folded up to create a temporary stamp pad for the stamp,   After embossing, I love the resist this created, allowing me to practice layering the different stamps and inks to create dimension for the background.
Day 3 was tissue tape fun.  Loved all the new ways I learned to play with tissue tape and a good lesson on looking at our stamps ‘differently’.
And I am finished through Day 4 where I learned to create a negative image with stamps and facets.
I’m starting to think that T!m Holtz is the Willy Wonka of the craft world and he has a whole bunch of little Oompa Loompa’s or little elves in his shop.   How does this man contain all this creativity without busting?  I’m so glad he shares a little with us, especially during this busy time.   I’m almost done with Day 5, but need me some numbers.   I thought about improvising here, but I really want that raised enameled look here and I want to play with those metal numbers.   I can’t wait to see what he comes up with tomorrow.   Have you been playing along?
Thanks for stopping by today,
