Yes, I’m still here, but haven’t been playing with pretty paper lately. Rather I’ve been playing with tissue paper and dress-pattern paper. I starting blogging as an avenue to share with you what I’m working on in the crafting world and just momentarily forgot that this could include my sewing skills as well as paper skills. So, I am including a few pictures of my current project and my craft studio that has spilled out into the dining room.
My dear daughter will be in a wedding next month as a bridesmaid for her childhood BFF. The bride (from the opposite Florida coast) chose a pattern and fabric for the material, and we hoped these dresses could be easily made – it’s not a detailed pattern. I figured we’d just get a seamstress in our area to make the dress for us. I hadn’t made a dress since she was a little bitty girl. I’ve sewn a few quilts in the last few years and I’ve sewn lots of stitches on paper, but not anything such as a formal dress. I was quite surprised to discover that there is only one seamstress in our entire area that makes dresses from patterns, and she is booked solid as a wedding dress designer. It seems all the local seamstresses and tailors ONLY do alterations now. If you are looking for a new business, this might just be an opportunity for you.
So, I unfolded my entire cutting table and even moved it into the dining room and also turned the dining table sideways. I pulled out all my sewing supplies, sewing machine, and serger and bought some extra yards of muslin. The muslin was to create a ‘mock’ dress first because during this time, I have learned how to redesign a pattern to be a more custom fit. Now that I have a pretty darn near perfect fit, I’ll start cutting and sewing the actual dress fabric. I’m feeling overwhelmed by this, because it has to be finished and look good enough for a wedding before next month. I also have a few scrapbook projects due and let’s not even discuss Father’s Day project, but I have to get this finished first. So, I’ll try to keep in touch a little better and keep you updated. I will also be sure to share pictures of the final dress when finished.
Until then, have a great week and check back soon! (and it wouldn’t hurt to whisper for a sewing fairy to come visit)

Seems like you have your work cut out for you. Hope everything goes well, which I’m sure it will. That’s one thing I cannot do is sew, I sew buttons and maybe little holes. LOL I wish I could though, could save tons of money on curtains at least. Can’t wait to see pictures.

Cheryl, You mean that the diningroom isn’t supposed to be part of the craftroom? What else do you use it for? LOL! I love sewing, but I haven’t been able to do any for a while. I can’t wait to see your daughter’s dress. I’m sure it will be amazing!
