I love the WWW! I keep meeting new friends and finding such great ideas online. Here is the one that I mentioned yesterday. I TOTALLY scrap lifted this from TaterTots and Jello. Jen has an amazing blog and an amazing talent to create fabulous projects and share with others. My friend, Katie, shared Jen’s blog with me and I was instantly sucked in and lost because I kept clicking on all her different projects getting completely wrapped up in not only her blog, but also in the blogs of many of her amazing friends. I can’t believe I had not found her yet as she does all kinds of great projects. Well, I’m a follower now!
One of her projects was Creepy Specimen Art – you can see her original post for this HERE. I LOVED this project and wanted to do the same thing. I started thinking of ways to do it a little different, but it just kept coming back to pretty much what she already had. I did not use fabric; I used some really cool BooVille paper from Little Yellow Bicycle called Poison Dots as my background. I then went through my stash of Halloween papers and mixed them all up to create my specimens. I did not use a grid either, I just tried to line them up straight.
I did learn a few interesting things and still need to experiment a little more. And I made great use of my Cricut Expression and my Cricut Imagine this weekend. The spider I really wanted to use is from October 31 cartridge. I tried to cut it with my Gypsy and Cricut, but could NOT get a good clean cut. It kept cutting one side smaller than the other and chopping off the legs; and we all know spiders are just not creepy without all those legs. I honestly haven’t tried cutting this directly from the Expression by putting the cartridge in the Expression. I just got frustrated and new that I had experienced great cuts on fine details on my Cricut Imagine, so I just switched to that and started cutting away. It was easy to increase the artwork and print a few at at time. I did not want to autofill the page, because I used different papers as I was cutting and trying to decide what looked good together. I cut the ‘gruesome’ jack-o-lanterns on my Imagine also. Now the bat is on the Wild Card cartridge and is paired with a spider (one I chose not to use). So, for this, I did use my Gypsy and Expression and used the hide-contour feature to hide the spider.
I also found a great corner spider web on October 31. Cut this out on white cardstock using my Imagine and then I glittered it with Martha Stewart’s glow-in-the-dark glitter. Sorry, I can’t get it to photograph well in the dark, but it did turn out really cool. I adhered it directly to the glass using Glue Dots micro dots. A little glitter during the day – a little glow at night.
I put my specimen frames together and put them on an empty wall, but felt like I still needed something else on that span of wall since I had placed them horizontally. I pulled out my vinyl and created word art using some phrases found on Happy Hauntings to enhance my wall decor.
