Grumpy Card

by Cheryl 3 Comments

My Dad’s birthday is coming up, so I spent all day trying to make him a card. I used my Happy Ever After cartridge and my Cricut to cut out little Grumpy. Isn’t he just too cute? I never thought I’d buy a Disney cartridge, but this one has some really cute features and icons. But then after all the time spent on the card, I found the best sentiment to put in it. The sentiment reads:
“(Apart from it taking 4 hours to painstakingly
make by an incredibly skilled and talented craftsperson…)
The only things special about this card…
is the person holding it.
Happy Birthday.”
The author was listed as unknown, so if I’m copying someone else’s words and not giving them credit, I do apologize in advance and thank you.

I made a Fancy Folds Card. I used dimensions found here. Thank you, JanTink, for your clear directions. There are many sites with directions, but I liked this size today.

The frustrating part was that things just went wrong making this card, but my Dad will still love it and hopefully you’ll appreciate me sharing my mistakes. First, here is the card; closed and then opened.

Grumpy Card

OK, I know this, but tried it anyway – DON’T use heavy textured cardstock for intricate cuts in the Cricut. All these layers were a little pain. I wanted the texture so I toughed it out, but it could have been a much neater cut with good paper. I am having a hard time finding good plain cardstock that is not too heavy or textured, but doesn’t look cheap and flimsy for my Cricut cuts. I’d love some suggestions!!! Then I used my glue pen and everywhere the glue seeped out, it has left little shiny spots that cannot be picked up with the little rubber eraser without messing up my little details. Next time I will use my Xyron, but I was concerned sticking these little pieces in there. And thank goodness I have “The Quicker-Poker-Picker-Upper”. That little tool has come in handy many times.

Here is the card open. I liked this card so Dad can maybe put it on his desk. The card and my picture looks better than it is uploading here. I am still working on those photography skills and patience. I finally just get frustrated and post what I have rather than fiddling with it any longer. Keep watching me learn and grow, because with every card, page, or project, I do learn something to make my work better and better. Hopefully soon it will start showing in my work that I post.
Thanks for stopping by and seeing my work today.
