Designer Crafts Connection- Hallowed Home

Mixed Media Halloween Canvas with skull

The first Monday of the month, always brings the Designer Crafts Connection blog hop.  This is composed of a group of amazingly talented designers from all areas of the Craft and Hobby Industry.  This month’s theme is Hallowed Homes and we are decorating for Halloween and/or Fall.   We will also have a fun challenge this month with prizes, so come back on October 13 to check out the challenge.   The challenge with Designer Crafts Connection this month will be the second Saturday instead of the first, so please make note.

My project is a two part-project.   Join me tomorrow night, 7 PM EST, at Helmar Live for a Ustream class as I finish the second part.  I will share that we are making a wreath, so if you want to play along, get a wreath, black fabric or gauze, some fun wreath making material from the dollar and/or craft store, and your Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive along with your Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.

My project today started with a 12×12 canvas, a papier-mâché skull, book paper, Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste, Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots, Helmar Quick Dry Adhesive and Tattered Angels Mists.

I stamped images on the canvas with Versamark and embossed the images with embossing powders before misting the entire canvas with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists as well as some black Dylusions.

The skull was covered with book paper using Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste.   Viva Décor Pearl Pen in Pearl was used to color the teeth.   I found some gooey glow-in-the-dark eyes at the Dollar Store which were the perfect fit.

I used an X-acto knife to cut an X in my canvas and made sure the mist the back of the canvas with the black mist.   I tacked down the cut edges with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and also used it again to hold the skull in place after pushing it threw the cut edges.   I finished the canvas with a little glow-in-the-dark spider webbing we found at the Dollar Store along with plastic spiders and finally added the American Crafts alpha letters using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to pop them off the canvas so they look like they are floating.

Isn’t this cool?  It was fun trying to get a picture of it glowing in the dark, but I finally got it and I love how it glows in the dark.

I hope you will take time today to see the rest of the fun Halloween and Fall décor with the Designer Crafts Connection blog hop.   I also hope you will mark your calendar and join me tomorrow night at Helmar Live on Ustream as I finish the second part of this project.

Thanks for stopping by,

LOL. I was a little nervous and had a back up just in case, but didn’t need it. I think I’ll definitely be playing with this idea for some future projects as well. Glad you liked it though
