Living the Art Life™

Covers & Candy

by Cheryl 26 Comments

I have something so exciting to share with you today.  I will be back to sharing some paper crafting with you soon too, but today is the last of my sewing projects (for now) that I have completed and they relate to my paper crafting.

I have wanted to make a Cricut Cover for a while, but haven’t found just the right material.   As I mentioned last week, I finally found some material that I fell in love with and felt represented my style and my room.   While looking for Cricut Cover patterns, I thought how much I would love to cover my other big tools / machines in my studio, but I couldn’t find patterns for them.  Living in Florida and having one dog and two cats, I’m always finding dust and hair.   So, by adding some new sewing skills I’ve recently picked up making handbags and a dress, I created my own patterns.  Please note that I am NOT a professional seamstress by any means.  These are NOT perfect, but suffice for my purpose and look quite nice, if I say so myself.

I did make a Cricut Cover.  I like the way my ends puffed out like little cap sleeves; gave it a girly look.   And I played with my embroidery unit and embroidered everything.  This one says, “Express Yourself”, but I should have used a deeper pink to stand out more.   For this pattern, I used the one from Custom Crops.  All other patterns are my original creations.

Then I got carried away and made one for my Zutter DreamKuts.

One for my Zutter Bind It All.

One for my Zutter Kutter.  I have started really using this thing for chipboard and LOVE it.  It does take some getting use to, but I’m so glad not to be bending the blade on my Tonic Guillotine.

I still might come back and make one for my Zutter Distrezz It All and I’m still going to make a valance for my studio with all the leftover fabric.

And finally, this is the same one you see at the top of this post and  is my original Big Shot cover.  This was was so easy to do and I have made a Gypsy file that you can use with your Cricut Markers to draw the pattern for this.  I even made a fun little video showing you how easy it is to create your own.   And the exact ONE that I made in the video is one I would love to give away for my BLOG CANDY!!

Here is the video.  Click on this link to watch in YouTube.

So, if you would be interested in winning your own personalized Big Shot cover made by me, you must be a follower of my blog and leave a comment on this post.  I’ll do the drawing on July 12th, so make sure to post by midnight on 7/11/2010.

If you would like a copy of the Gypsy file to make your own, I ask that you please leave me a comment and remember to give credit to where the pattern was created. You can download the Gypsy file HERE

I’ve also made a CDS .cut file this time and you can download that HERE.

PS.  Blogger has been having trouble with comments, so please make sure your comment posts and is still there if/when you refresh this post.

I love your fabric choices! I also admit that I am completely sewing machine challenged! I may have to steal your big shot cover! Or…you’ll have to make me one for my BIG Sizzix…I have the quilting machine. LOL Love it.

Try to buy the product from some established manufacturer as you will have a wide variety of options and you may even get the desirable size.

Wow this is so cute! I have been wondering how to make a cover for all my big stuff and you solved my problem. I would love to win this, but if I don’t I may take a stab at trying to make one myself using your measurements. I do have a sewing machine, but have only used it a few times. Wonderful job!!

Can I be in the drawing, too? 🙂 That way if I win, I won’t have to make one of my own out of the instructions you gave me. I really love that you made a cover for almost all your scrappy tools! Wonderful material choices!
