This is my take on the 28th sketch from Sassy Lil’ Sketches. This was a fun little sketch that allowed me to use some smaller pics to highlight an event. This featured pictures from an event I attended at my friend, LaWanda’s, house. Every year their family hosts a Cane Grinding day. For a little background here, you need to realize this is like a coming home weekend for me because I grew up in Sugar Country. Much of my family has worked for the sugar industry at some point.
This is the original sketch. You can see it and other designers’ interpretation at Sassy Lil’ Sketches. Please stop by and see what these gals have created with this sketch. While there, we would love for you to create your own layout using this sketch and then share it with us by linking.
I utilized a hidden journaling tag here. I also used a couple of those fabulous new T!m Holtz dies. I used the postage stamp On the Edge die here on the journaling tag. And I love all the texture with the burlap and denim strip tied in a knot.
For my journaling, I used the T!m Holtz ticket die. Now, what made this even more cool was that I used my Gypsy and created a similar ticket border template. I wanted a template only so that I could center the words I wanted to use and have them drawn out on the ticket strip using my Cri-Kits pens. Love this!
Then while looking through my die drawer, I found this Sizziix die which was the perfect embellishment for this layout. These flowers were the perfect compliment to the background paper behind the pictures and added just that little bit of extra to my page. And just a little bit of Rock Candy Stickles in the center. Click on any of the pictures above for a closer look.
Some of these papers came from April’s The Scarlet Lime kit and some were from The Girls Loft March Kit.
Thanks for stopping by.

Cheryl…I love sugar cane…In PR they used to have many sugar cane fields and many people, including my grandpa, worked in them too.

Sorry I didn’t catch up with you Wednesday but my eye just wouldn’t allow it. It’s a little better today so I’m trying to catch up on a few blogs.
Not sure I know how to cane grind but it certainly looks like everyone was really enjoying the day. Fab LO.
