This is probably one of my all-time favorite projects and is a kit I was able to pick up in my LSS, Everything Scrapbook & Stamps. The kit is “Our Nest” Banner from Shabby Green Door. Sometimes I really like working with kits; everything is all planned out and many times you get to learn some new techniques. I picked up a couple with this kit project and got to apply many other new techniques I just haven’t used lately.
Can you believe these branches were made with paper ribbon? They are so realistic looking. They were created by separating some strips of the ribbon, wetting them, and then rolling them up and letting them dry.
This is more paper ribbon scrunched up in a nest shape and dried in a bowl shape. The little eggs are wooden eggs that were painted and stickled! I can’t believe how amazing these came out.
Look at all these different elements; fabric, glitter, paint, chipboard, crepe paper, plastic, pins, lace, paper, crackle paint and stamping. I love all this.
And my favorite element piece! The original kit had a beautiful image of a birdcage on patterned paper. I substituted a bird cage cut from grungeboard using T!m Holtz Caged Bird die. I then distressed it with his rusted grunge technique. The bird was also cut with grungeboard and covered with patterned paper from the kit and inked; a little black pearl for an eye. Some square brads finished it off along with a little chain.
So, sometimes kits can be lots of fun and can make you a beautiful project to display and ….maybe you’ll learn something new too.
Thanks for stopping by.

I have been looking everywhere for someone who has done this kit, and I finally found you! I bought this kit last year at my local stamp store, during their GOOB sale (boo for closing, but yay for the sale). I loved doing this kit, but I wanted to find the supplies to make some for friends. I was so sad to not be able to find this kit anymore, some of it I suppose I could substitute, but what is driving me mad is the paper ribbon! What do you think that paper ribbon was pre-treated with to make it kind of sticky when wet, and then dry into a different shape? It almost felt like Modge Podge to me. I can’t even seem to find that pre-treated paper ribbon, just other paper ribbon that is rolled up and you can unroll and use in projects.

Sorry for the delay in replying Beth, your comment was in my spam for some reason. 🙁 I’m so glad you loved that kit. I did too. Yes, I’m sure it was a collage type adhesive on that ribbon. I think you could do something similar with some fabric stiffener though, even on a paper ribbon, even a good starch. Did you find a solution yourself? I’d love to see yours finished. Shoot me a pic on my Facebook page – http://www.facebook.com/CherylBoglioliDesigns 🙂

Cher…love it…absolutely freaky too because I was doing laundry yesterday and I had in my hands two mini nests with two mini birds I have and I was thinking how can I re-use them since I think they are adorable and here you are.
Isn’t something, oh my! 🙂
