I am so pleased with how this came out. I have been playing more with my encaustic supplies and happy to have finally bought a simple griddle for my craft table. I’m using the griddle to melt the wax in small tins – or directly on griddle – so I can paint with it!
For this piece, I started with a small 6×6 Ampersand encausticbord. I applied PanPastels directly to the encausticbord over a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop. The PanPastel went on so smooth to the encausticbord. You can see a peek of my griddle heating up!
After I removed the stencil, I have a great background to work with. It’s awfully pretty by itself.
At this point, applied a clear layer of encaustic medium and then began painting my leaves with fan brushes using melted encaustic paint. I continued to add layers of colors to build up the texture. After I was done, I added another layer of clear medium and carefully applied the stencil once more. I added a more Violet Tint and Neutral Gray Shade to really make the colors pop under the leaves and bring the aspen branches back out. Final fuse with the heat gun and I’m calling it done!
This is going up for sale in my gallery! But you can buy now and I will carefully wrap and ship it to you Priority Mail. Will be ready for mounting on wall.

WOW! This is absolutely stunning – what beautiful work you do! 🙂
You are so sweet. Thank you, Molly. I adore all the creations you share too!
Beautiful As always my friend. Really interesting technique. I’ve never heard of it, so I’m going to do a little research. 🙂
Hi I work with paper and don’t know what encaustic is! Whatever it is I love it – really beautiful work! Thanks for sharing.
I am in love with this project. You have inspired me! I have tinkered a bit with encaustic on our Art Squares, but using the Pan Pastels and a stencil with encaustic medium…will definitely be trying that!
Thank you, Lisa. If I’ve inspired you in any way, you have definitely made my week! Please come back here or link up with me on Facebook and make sure to share when you try this together.
Gorgeous!
Thank you so much, Sandy
This is awesome… I’ve seen the encaustic demoed but never really done it (well maybe one small make-in-take that I never finished at CHA)! But it’s so fascinating to me. Love the stencil you used and the beautiful fall colors!
Thank you. I was so afraid to start in it, but got started using Purple Cows encaustic wax and am now growing my supplies, mediums, and tools. It is quite addicting for me.
Aspen Whispers is just stunning. The fall colors of the leaves make one wish for Fall.
Thanks, Diana. I wish it was fall here too, even though I’d never see colors like that in Florida. I do have a little maple tree that gives me a hint of color and does drop it’s leaves with a cold front. 😉
fun technique
Just gorgeous Cheryl…. I love the colours and of course the texture…. stunning!!
Wow! Such beautiful work. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Wow, I truly love this piece, wish I had some cash in my budget for art, it would be on my wall ! Great job Cheryl! thanks for sharing your technique.
I really love the way it came it out. I wish our trees in Texas turned such a beautiful shade of red orange. I envy those of you who have the inspiration of fall in front of you. I had never heard of Encaustic Painting and I am absolutely thrilled by it.
WOW! This is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing the process. Amazing!
Love this! Beautiful work!

Me too! (love the fall season) I just wish it would start cooling off some for us here in Florida. 🙂
AWESOME!!! There is nothing like encaustic work! This fall scene is gorgeous!
Thanks Anita, I was truly inspired by the stencil and the great colors of encaustic paint I have!
Just Beautiful my Frriend! Thank you for sharing the Process with us!
Thank you, Molly. I’d love some tips from your photography friend about camera settings. 🙂
