Art Journaling with the Journal Buddy

by Cheryl 44 Comments

Art Journal with the Journal BuddyI’m having a great time playing in my journal from Yvonne Blair.  I shared a post recently how I created a Fabric Elements Fused Journal Cover using this same journal.  Today I’m sharing a page from inside that I recently created.  I’m also participating with Yvonne Blair’s Blog hop with some fellow amazing designers sharing how much we love Yvonne’s new Journal Buddy.  What is her Journal Buddy?

Journal Buddy with Yvonne Blair Journal Here is a picture of Yvonne’s Journal Buddy with her Journal I covered. The Journal Buddy is a great little tool that can easily travel in your journal or journaling supplies. I can use it as a ruler, as a straight edge or wave edge, or to draw in evenly spaced journaling lines.  I wanted to show you a few ways in this art journal layout.

[Tweet “The #JournalBuddy is great little tool that travels easily”]

Yvonne Blair JournalFirst, let me say I love Yvonne’s journal.  It is bound in such a way that when I open the journal, it lays flat.  That makes it so easy to journal in.  CherylBoglioli_Yvonne Blair_Journal Buddy-2 I also appreciate the fact that the paper is sturdy enough to take a lot of media.  I love playing with various mediums even in my journal, so this is an important feature for me.  Using TCW Stencils and Glass beadsAfter spraying some Dylusions sprays on my paper and letting it dry, I applied Faber-Castell Glass Beads through a stencil by The Crafter’s Workshop.  Make sure to wash any medium off your stencil as soon as you are finished.

[Tweet “Make sure to wash stencils after using texture mediums”] CherylBoglioli_Yvonne Blair_Journal Buddy-4 It was pretty right here, but I decided to add more.  I then let it dry and you will see from my finished journal page above, that I sprayed black spray over the glass beads for contrast.  The beads didn’t resist as much as I had hoped, but it still looks cool and I learned something while playing.  That is what art journaling is all about for me.  Tracing with Journal BuddyCherylBoglioli_Yvonne Blair_Journal Buddy-6I removed one sheet from back of journal and sprayed it as well.  I then used the wavy edge of the Journal Buddy to trace a line to cut.  I then cut along the line for two pockets and adhered these to the bottom of the journal pages.

CherylBoglioli_Yvonne Blair_Journal Buddy-1-3

After inking some tags and stamping them with no other than Yvonne Blair’s stamps from Impression Obsession, I used the Journal Buddy to ink in some lines.  I can now go back and write some thoughts or ideas on my tags and they fit nicely in my little pockets.

I truly love the versatility of the Journal Buddy.  You can click on the hyperlink to order your own for $10 ($8 + $2 shipping).  You can also find more information about Yvonne’s journal by emailing her at yblair1@gmail.com.  To purchase any of Yvonne’s stamps, you can do so at Impression Obsession.  Of course, always check with your local independent store first.  If they aren’t carrying Yvonne’s products yet, you can always suggest them.

Now for the fun part.  As mentioned, I’m participating in a blog hop with a fabulous set of designers.

I don’t think I have ever seen a bound journal that lies flat, it is such an inspired idea by Yvonne. Your page is beautiful, the colours are lush and I love how the Buddy can be used to create those perfect professional lines on the beautiful tags you created. And of course, the quote on the pocket is just beautiful.

Thanks a bunch, Sara. It was an experiment! I’m learning that even though it doesn’t always come out the way you imagined in your head, it still works! And if I hadn’t have mentioned it, no one else would ever know. Again, that’s the part I love about playing in an art journal though. I can experiment, play, mess up, and succeed all in one happy journal playground. 🙂 Thanks for leaving a comment and visiting.
