Cheryl in Brisbane, Queensland
My final weekend in Australia was bittersweet. I loved making new friends and connecting IRL with people I had befriended online, but I was also ready to head home. It was a long 5 weeks so far from home but I wasn’t done yet! You can see the rest of my Adventures in Australia in prior posts.
The Autralia Zoo
Darling Bella, the owner of The Vintage Chicks Club, was my host in Brisbane. She welcomed me into her lovely home and took me on a very special field trip to The Australia Zoo.
I was so excited to go, but didn’t realize just how much until I arrived and it really hit me that this was a special trip and all that I had been able to see and do while visiting Australia.
It was even emotional to see video clips of Steve Irwin and think about how much this place must have meant to him and how tragic his sudden death was.
And yes, I finally got to pet a Koala in addition to more kangaroos!
The Vintage Chicks Club
The last weekend was packed full of fun, paint, and new friends at The Vintage Chicks club. I love this picture above at the beginning showing all the tables and paint so neat and clean. Trust me, it didn’t stay that way for long once we started creating layers of prints on our Gel Press plates. We had fun painting an apron and creating The Painted Traveler’s Journal.
Again, I was welcomed with warmth and friendship and can attest to Australians being some of the friendliest people anywhere!
Heading Home
When it was finally time to head home, I arrived at the airport to discover my flight had been delayed with no estimate of departure. So I waited…
and waited…
and waited many hours (and tried to get a little work done)
and finally my flight was ready to go!
The one highlight was getting a row all to myself for the LOOONG flight home. That helped make up for the all-day delay. 🙂
The End of Adventures in Australia
And here is a quick video of highlights from my last weekend in Australia!
I hope you enjoyed my recap. If you ever get the chance to visit Australia, definitely go! I would recommend staying more than one week because the flight there and back from the United States is a very long flight. I do hope to return and see even more of this beautiful country including some of the Outback and to meet even more friends along the way.
