Cheryl Down Under Part 3
The Adventures in Australia continued from Swansea to Lismore where I stayed for a while visiting Time to Create with Julie Short. Julie lives in a little country town of Modanville and her customers really went out to make me feel at home.
Julie’s store is on her home property and let me tell you what a beautiful piece of property this is. Julie and her dear husband, Les, have run a nursery for many years so there are plants everywhere and gorgeous flowers as well as charming little art pieces created by Les throughout the gardens.

Workshops at Time to Create
We had a few different classes during my stay at Time to Create. I loved the canvases everyone created in our Easy Collage Canvas Class.
We learned how to make so many different prints using our Gel Press plate with The Crafter’s Workshop stencils and Paper Artsy paints. Those prints then became a Painted Traveler’s Journal using Sizzix Travel Journal die designed by Eileen Hull.
We used extra prints to create a scrapbook page one afternoon and I demonstrated ways to use stencils and paints to revamp those prints that are not your favorite.
Tea Time
The one thing I learned when traveling abroad is to embrace their customs. An example of this is that most every place I taught took time for tea. These breaks were not factored into my teaching time, but thankfully everyone was very accommodating. At Julie’s, it wasn’t just tea though, it was tea and cakes and cookies and bars and just so much food. There is no doubt that I was very well fed on my entire trip around Australia.
Sightseeing
We kept the momentum going after seeing The Big Merino and the Tucker Box and I got to see The Big Prawn.
One special trip I’ll never forget is the visit to Crystal Castle. It is home to two of the tallest crystals on earth and magical Shambhala Gardens. It was such a treat that Julie and Les took me to see this. At the end, they had a lemon wishing tree where you could write a wish and tie it to the tree. I made two and they are already coming true.
Julie really paid attention to the little things too. I had shared how I have been collecting pictures of crossing road signs across my travels so Julie took a little detour just so I could get a good photo of this one – an echidna crossing AND a kangaroo crossing. I did also obtain a koala crossing photo while there.
The Adventure Continues
It was a joy to spend such quality time with Julie on this trip. She and I have been online friends for many years and I was so thrilled to meet her in person and her sweet husband, Les. They welcomed me into their home and made me feel at home and they made such an effort to show me their part of Australia. I am ever grateful for this experience and their graciousness.
But the trip wasn’t quite over, the Adventures in Australia continue as I had one more stop to make and I’ll share that next. Have you had the chance to visit Australia? If not, I really recommend adding that to your list. I’m planning a return trip already.
