Living the Art Life™

28th Sassy Sketch

by Cheryl 7 Comments

I am having so much fun with these sketches and I’m being inspired to scrap those older photos I’ve been procrastinating with.

The sketch I had to start with looks like this:

The pictures I chose though created another layout that was a real struggle – I mean really look at the colors of the photos I had to work with.   And this guy was supposed to be a pro?   Well, I think I was able to get it to work.  Yet once again, I wish you could see this in person.   There is really so much texture and dimension that cannot photograph the best.  The papers were from Kaiser Kraft Tudor collection and Graphics 45 Hot Tomato.  I’m not sure of the black patterned paper…sorry.

I also played with a lot of different techniques.   I loved the red paper, but it was still a little bright, so I dry rubbed some Ranger white pain over with a dry brush in various place and then added a little black soot distress ink.   I also dry brushed the corrugated cardboard with the white paint and then wiped it off.   I distressed the edges and inked the edges of the cardboard and then even lightly misted with a little glimmer mist.   Very subtle look, but it kept it from being too dull and matte.  I know it may not have needed it, but I did!   I added lots of different texture on top of those layers.

I added metal photo corners.  You can also better see the corrugated cardboard here.
I added a lasso of twine.   I had a hard time getting my twine to bend and shape the way I wanted it.  So, I wrapped it around a jelly jar (I have buttons stored in those in my room) and taped it to the jar.  Misted the twine with water and then dried it with my heat gun.   It then kept the lasso-type shape I wanted!
Now doesn’t this look so yummy?  I LOVE LOVE LOVE texture.   I used a tag from Tim Holtz grungeboard and painted it with some Ranger Expresso Brown Dabber paint. A little twine tied to the edges.
I added twine trim and Rusty Pickle Brad Letters.   Oh, I also just barely glimmer misted and then inked over the journaling tag in the background and the punched border is a Martha Stewart punch.   The Lil letters are epoxy stickers.
So, I’m thrill that I completed another layout using photos that are over 10 years old.  (poor Sage).    I ask you to try these Sassy Lil’ Sketches because they are so versatile and fun.   I’d love to see what you create.   Start by trying this sketch here.
Thanks for stopping by.

Wonderful attention to detail in order to pull from the theme of the photo. Never would have thought of heat gunning twine!
